Contra Costa Sheriff's Bell 407, photo courtesy Flickr- SJL's photostream.The Contra Costa Sheriff's Office operates two helicopters, a turbine powered Bell 407 (7 passenger) and a turbine powered Bell 206B-3 helicopter. The primary role of the Contra Costa Sheriff's Air Support Unit is to provide law enforcement reconnaissance, rescue, and support to all public safety agencies within the County. The helicopter unit, known as STARR One, also provides mutual aid support to adjacent counties as well as the East Bay Regional Park District.
Geographically Contra Costa County is located in the San Francisco Bay Area and is approximately 802 square miles in size. The county is bordered on the south and west by Alameda Co., on the north west by San Francisco Bay and Marin County, and on the north by San Pablo Bay, and on the east by the San Joaquin River. Martinez Ca. is the county seat.
